He was supervising the filming of a precision landing facility for F-86 fighter jets. Suddenly, a saucer-like craft flew directly over the cameraman. Three landing gear apparatus opened, and the object landed on the dry lake bed.

Gordon Cooper, Jr. was an American astronaut. Cooper was one of the seven original astronauts in Project Mercury, the first manned-space effort by the United States. He flew the longest spaceflight of the Mercury project, was the first American to sleep in orbit and has been noted as the last American to fly alone in earth orbit thus far.
Pavel Romanovich Popovich was a Soviet cosmonaut of Ukrainian descent, arguably the first ethnic Ukrainian to fly in space. Popovich commanded two space flights, Vostok 4 and Soyuz 14. His call sign in these flights was Golden eagle. In 1960, he was selected as one of a group of twenty air force pilots that would train as the first cosmonauts. Vostok 4 was part of the first dual space flight, with Andrian Nikolayev on Vostok 3.
He retired from the space programme in 1982. In 1984 Popovich joined the Academy of Sciences newly created All-Union Investigation Committee for Anomalous Aerial Phenomena and became head of the Academy's UFO Commission. Nowadays he is the president of UFO association of Russia and the chairman of Ukrainian diaspora organisation in Russia.

Edgar Dean Mitchell, D.Sc. is an American pilot and astronaut. As the lunar module pilot of Apollo 14, he spent nine hours of February 9, 1971 moonwalking on the Fra Mauro formation, making him the sixth person to walk on the Moon. Mitchell has publicly expressed his opinions that he is "90 per cent sure that many of the thousands of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, recorded since the 1940s, belong to visitors from other planets" and that UFOs have been the "subject of disinformation in order to deflect attention and to create confusion so the truth doesn't come out". Dateline NBC had an interview with Mitchell on April 19, 1996, during which he discussed meeting with officials from three countries who claimed to have had personal encounters with extraterrestrials. He offered his opinion that the evidence for such "alien" contact was "very strong" and "classified" by governments, who were covering up visitations and the existence of alien beings' bodies in places such as Roswell, New Mexico. He further claimed that UFOs had provided "sonic engineering secrets" that were helpful to the U.S. government. Mitchell's book, The Way of the Explorer, discusses his journey into mysticism and space . In 2004 he told the St. Petersburg Times that a "cabal of insiders" inside the US Government were studying recovered alien bodies, and that this group had stopped briefing US Presidents after John F. Kennedy. He has said, that "We all know that UFOs are real, now the question is, where they come from".
Here's the curious thing about the head of the Vatican's astronomical observatory saying there's a strong likelihood that extraterrestrial beings exist and that they are part of God's plan: not the "what," but the "when," as in "why now?"
